Most color lines on the market have a high ammonia content and most likely have a harsh pH which in turn does can cause damage to the cuticle. However, the line that I use is 90% botanically derived and contains very little ammonia.

I typically recommend my clients to wash every other day and condition every day. 

Not all products are built the same. Most products that are made with a water base tend to be damaging for the hair.
